Chemours Hub

Modular HVAC for research & innovation

 Location

Newark, DE

Project Type

Lab HVAC Design

Project Scope

Energy Transfer Solutions partnered with IMC Construction to deliver a modular HVAC system for the Chemours Discovery Hub, a 312,000-sq-ft lab and office building at the University of Delaware’s STAR Campus. Designed for collaboration and innovation, the facility houses 100+ labs and supports over 330 scientists.

Complex Systems, Limited Labor

With over 100 labs and 330+ occupants, Chemours needed a complex HVAC system built on a tight timeline during labor shortages. ETS collaborated with the architect and contractor to create a modular, preassembled solution—reducing time on-site and ensuring the 312,000-sq-ft building could be delivered on time and within budget.

Fully Integrated Custom HVAC

ETS supplied a Systecon CUP with chillers, towers, boilers, and non-chemical water treatment; custom dual-tunnel air handlers from Air Enterprises; energy recovery from Konvekta; and high plume lab exhaust from MK Plastics. Factory-installed coils and pump modules streamlined installation and startup. ETS also provided balancing and startup support.

"This is more than a building—it’s a center for innovation where creative energy will flourish for decades."

Modular HVAC for a Modern Lab

The Chemours Discovery Hub is a cutting-edge facility powered by a modular HVAC design. ETS’s system delivers 130,000 CFM of outside air, serves 100+ labs, and includes energy-efficient components like VFDs, energy recovery coils, and chemical-free water treatment. On-site labor was minimized, while performance, scalability, and efficiency were maximized.
